Microchipping

Microchipping is the only unique, tamper-proof, permanent mode of identification and is as small as a grain of rice. While we recommend microchipping at the time of a pets spay or neuter, they can be done at any time in a pets life. The process is very simple, we scan your pet for a previous microchip that may have been placed from a breeder/rescue/previous owner. If not microchip is found, we implant the small microchip which has as unique number that sends small radiowave frequencies to microchip scanners, between the shoulder blades using a slightly larger size needle than what we give vaccines with. We then rescan with our scanner to see that the chip has been implanted under the skin.

Once implanted, the owner must now register the microchip with their information. Implantation alone, without registering is simply not enough. You either mail in an information form provided by the company to the clinic, or simply go online to the microchip website and fill out the information there. You do not have to worry about your personal information, the information you provide to the microchip registry will only be used to contact you if your pet is found and stays between the registry and you.

When a pet becomes lost, a rescue/veterinary hospital/animal control scan for a microchip, if one has been planted all it shows is the unique microchip number. They then contact the company and says that they have found a pet with that chip number and then the company then reaches out to the owner, so none of your personal information is released to the public.

Microchipping nearly doubles the chances of your pet coming home.
